Striped Knit Beanie Pattern

This striped beanie is made using a simple knit stitch with alternating colors for a fun and vibrant look. It features a snug fit that is perfect for cold weather!

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn in two colors: Blue (approximately 100 yards) and White (approximately 75 yards)
  • Size 8 (5mm) knitting needles
  • Size 6 (4mm) circular needles
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge:

18 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette stitch using size 8 needles.

Abbreviations:

  • K = Knit
  • P = Purl
  • St = Stitch
  • Rnd = Round
  • CO = Cast on
  • BO = Bind off

Instructions:

  1. Cast On: Using blue yarn, CO 72 stitches on size 8 needles.
  2. Join in Round: Being careful not to twist, join for working in the round. Place a stitch marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
  3. Ribbing: K2, P2 for 1.5 inches.
  4. Start Stripes: Begin working in stockinette stitch (knit every round) alternating colors every 10 rounds:
    • Round 1-10: Continue with blue yarn.
    • Round 11-20: Change to white yarn.
    • Round 21-30: Change back to blue yarn.
    • Repeat until the hat measures approximately 6 inches from the cast on edge.
  5. Shaping the Crown: Start decreasing:
    1. Round 1: *K6, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    2. Round 2: *K5, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    3. Round 3: *K4, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    4. Round 4: *K3, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    5. Round 5: *K2, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    6. Round 6: *K1, K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
    7. Round 7: *K2tog* repeat from * to * around.
  6. Finishing: Cut the yarn leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches, pull tight to close the top of the hat. Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.
