Crochet Vintage Floral Granny Square Cowl Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in 8 colors (e.g., Red Heart Unforgettable and Red Heart Soft)
  • Crochet hook size H/5mm
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge:

Each granny square measures approximately 2.5 inches.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • sc: single crochet
  • dc: double crochet

Instructions:

Floral Granny Square:

  1. Round 1: With your chosen color, make a magic ring, ch 3 (counts as dc), 11 dc in ring. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (12 dc)
  2. Round 2: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 3, skip 1 dc, sc in next dc; repeat from * around, ending with ch 3, join with sl st to first sc. (6 ch-3 spaces)
  3. Round 3: Sl st to first ch-3 space, ch 3, 2 dc in same ch-3 space, *3 dc in next ch-3 space; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of ch-3. Fasten off.

Assembling the Granny Squares:

    Repeat the granny square pattern to make a total of 48 squares, using different colors for variety. Lay the squares out in a 4x12 rectangle, alternating colors.

Joining the Squares:

  1. Using a neutral color, join the squares by whip stitching through the back loops or use the join-as-you-go method with slip stitches along adjoining sides.

Finishing the Cowl:
