Crochet Elegant Sun Hat Free Pattern
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight cotton yarn
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm)
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Abbreviations Used:
- ch: chain
- st: stitch
- sl st: slip stitch
- sc: single crochet
- dc: double crochet
- rep: repeat
- rnd(s): round(s)
Instructions:
Top of Hat:
- Start with a magic ring. Ch 2 (does not count as a st here and throughout). Work 10 dc into the ring. Join with a sl st to the first dc. (10 dc)
- Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (20 dc)
- Ch 2, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st) rep around. Join. (30 dc)
- Ch 2, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2 sts) rep around. Join. (40 dc)
- Continue increasing in this pattern until you have a total of 80 dc at the end of the 8th round.
Body of Hat:
- Ch 2, dc in each st around. Join. (80 dc)
- Rep Round 6 until hat measures 6 inches from the crown.
Openwork Band:
- Ch 3 (counts as dc, ch 1), *skip next st, dc in next st, ch 1* rep from * to * around, join. (40 dc ch-1 spaces)
- Ch 2, dc in each dc and ch-1 space around. Join. (80 dc)
- Rep Rounds 8 and 9 one more time.
Brim:
- Ch 2, 2 dc in each st around. Join. (160 dc)
- Ch 2, (2 dc in next st, 1 dc in next st) rep around. Join. (240 dc)
- Ch 1, sc in each st around. Join. (240 sc)
Finishing:
- Fasten off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
