Crochet Playful Multicolor Mohawk Hat Free Pattern

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in gray and multiple colors for spikes
• Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations:

• ch - chain
• sc - single crochet
• hdc - half double crochet
• inc - increase (2 sc in one stitch)
• sl st - slip stitch

Instructions:

Base Hat

1. With gray yarn, make a magic ring, ch 1.
2. Round 1: Work 8 sc into the ring. Join with a sl st to first sc. (8 sts)
3. Round 2: ch 1, inc in each st around. Join with sl st. (16 sts)
4. Round 3: ch 1, (1 sc, inc) around. Join with sl st. (24 sts)
5. Round 4: ch 1, (2 sc, inc) around. Join with sl st. (32 sts)
6. Continue increasing in this manner until you have 64 sts or desired head size.
7. Rounds 5-15: ch 1, sc in each st around. Join with sl st. (64 sts)
8. Round 16: ch 1, (3 sc, 1 hdc) around. Join with sl st. (64 sts)
9. Rounds 17-20: Repeat Round 16. Slip stitch to finish and weave in ends.

Mohawk Spikes

1. Change to desired colors for spikes.
2. Attach yarn to the top center stitch of hat.
3. Row 1: ch 13, turn, sc in each chain back to the base (12 sc). Sl st to next base st.
4. Row 2: sl st in next st of base, turn, sc in each sc of previous row. (12 sc)
5. Continue rows 1-2, creating spike strips along the center of the hat with varying colors.

Adjust the number of spikes to fit the circumference of the hat. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
