Materials Needed
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in cream, red, orange, yellow, blue, and green
- Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5.0mm)
- Pom-Pom Maker
- Tapestry Needle
- Scissors
Abbreviations
- ch - chain
- sl st - slip stitch
- sc - single crochet
- hdc - half double crochet
- st(s) - stitch(es)
Gauge
16 stitches and 12 rows = 4 inches in half double crochet
Instructions
Beanie Base
- Ribbed Band:
- With cream yarn, ch 8.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (7 sts)
- Row 2-42: Ch 1, turn, sc in back loops only across. (7 sts)
- Bring short ends together, sl st through both layers to join and form a loop. Do not fasten off.
- Body of Beanie:
- Switch to dark blue yarn, work 42 hdc evenly around the edge of the ribbed band. Join with sl st to first hdc.
- Continue changing colors according to the stripe pattern: 2 rows cream, 2 rows blue, 2 rows red, 2 rows cream, 2 rows orange, 2 rows yellow, 2 rows cream, 2 rows blue.
- Repeat the stripe sequence until desired height, ending with a red stripe.
- Decrease:
- Work 1 round of hdc decreases until the top closes.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Pom-Poms (Make 2)
- Using pom-pom maker and all colors of yarn, create two pom-poms.
- Securely attach one pom-pom to each side of the beanie, at the top.
- Trim any excess yarn and make sure pom-poms are securely fastened.
Finishing
Weave in all remaining ends and trim excess yarn. Shape the beanie and pom-poms as needed.
