Colorful Granny Squares Pattern

Create these vibrant and cheerful granny squares, perfect for beginners looking to explore crochet. Materials

  • Crochet hook: Size 4.0 mm (G-6)
  • Yarn: Worsted weight cotton yarn in four colors (White, Light Blue, Green, Dark Blue)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

Approximately 4 rows = 2 inches using double crochet. Adjust hook size as necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sp = space
  • st = stitch
  • rep = repeat
  • MR = magic ring

Instructions

Round 1

  1. With White yarn, make a magic ring (MR), and ch 3 (counts as dc).
  2. In MR, 2 dc, ch 2, *3 dc, ch 2*; rep from * to * two more times. Join with sl st to top of initial ch-3.
  3. Tighten the MR. (You should have four 3-dc groups and four ch-2 corners.)

Round 2

  1. Change to Light Blue yarn, join in any ch-2 corner, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same ch-2 sp.
  2. In next 3-dc group, work 3 dc. In next ch-2 corner, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.
  3. Continue around in this manner. At the end, join with sl st to top of initial ch-3.

Round 3

  1. Change to Green yarn, join in any ch-2 corner, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same ch-2 sp.
  2. Work 3 dc in each of the next groups across to corner, work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in corner.
  3. Repeat around. Join with sl st to top of initial ch-3.

Round 4

  1. Change to Dark Blue yarn, join in any ch-2 corner, ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in same ch-2 sp.
  2. 3 dc in each group across to corner. In corner ch-2 space, work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.
  3. Continue around the square, join with sl st to top of initial ch-3.

Finishing

Fasten off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle. Block each square to shape if desired.

Assembly

Join squares together using your preferred method (sew, crochet join, etc.) to create your desired project.
