Aurora Veil Crochet Shawl Free Pattern
Special Stitches & Pattern Notes
This pattern uses two special techniques that are easy to master:
- dc2tog (Double Crochet Two Together): Yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (2 loops remain on hook). Yarn over, insert hook in next st, yarn over, pull up loop, yarn over, pull through 2 loops (3 loops on hook). Yarn over, pull through all 3 loops on hook. This decreases two stitches into one.
- ch-3 picot: Chain 3, then slip stitch into the top of the last stitch made (the stitch you just worked). This creates a tiny decorative point.
Pattern Notes:
- The shawl is worked from the center top down, increasing at each end and at the center to form the crescent shape.
- You can carry the unused yarn up the side of the work to avoid cutting and rejoining, or cut and rejoin as preferred. Carrying yarn creates a neat side edge but can be slightly bulkier; cutting gives a cleaner edge but requires more ends to weave.
- Chain 4 at the beginning of each row counts as a double crochet plus a chain-1 space.
