Soft Green Knitted Sweater
Materials
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn, approximately 800 yards (730 meters) in a soft green color.
- Needles: Size 10 (6 mm) circular needles, 32 inches long.
- Stitch marker.
- Scissors.
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
Gauge
10 stitches and 14 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch. It’s important to check your gauge to ensure your sweater has the right fit.
Abbreviations
- k = knit
- p = purl
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- RS = right side
- WS = wrong side
- k2tog = knit two together
Instructions
Body
- Cast on 80 stitches.
- Row 1 (RS): *k1, p1; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Row 2 (WS): *p1, k1; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until the piece measures 14 inches from the cast on edge.
- Next, knit every row for 10 inches to create the body of the sweater.
Sleeves
- For the sleeves, pick up 40 stitches along the armhole edge.
- Repeat the ribbing sequence from Rows 1 and 2 for 2 inches.
- Then knit every row for an additional 8 inches.
- To shape the sleeves, decrease by knitting 2 stitches together at the beginning and end of every 6th row until 12 stitches remain.
Neckline
- After finishing the body and sleeves, sew the side seams to join body and sleeves.
- Pick up 60 stitches evenly around the neckline.
- Repeat the ribbing sequence (Rows 1 and 2) for 2 inches.
Finishing
- Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
- Block the sweater gently to measurements if necessary.
