Macramé Hammock Pattern

Materials

• 300 meters of 5mm natural cotton rope
• Two sturdy metal rings (5 cm in diameter)
• Scissors
• Measuring tape

Gauge is not crucial for this project.

Abbreviations

• L: Loop
• HK: Half Knot
• N: Knot

Instructions

1. Prepare the Ropes:
   • Cut 32 lengths of rope, each 4.5 meters long.
2. Attach Ropes to Rings:
   • Fold each length in half to make a loop (L).
   • Secure the loop through the metal ring using a Larks Head Knot. Pass both ends of the rope through the loop around the ring (this creates two rope lengths from each original line).
3. First Row (Vertical Half Knots):
   • Use four ropes at a time to form a HK, tightening it securely. Repeat across the row.
4. Alternate Row:
   • Skip the first two ropes, then use the next four to repeat the HK process, creating an offset pattern.
5. Continue Knotting:
   • Alternate rows of HKs and gaps until you reach the desired hammock length (usually about 2 to 2.5 meters).
6. Finish the End:
   • Use two ropes from neighboring sections to create overhand knots at various points, ensuring security and distribution of tension.
7. Trim Excess:
   • Trim any excess rope to even lengths at both ends of the hammock.
8. Secure the Second Ring:
   • Repeat the Larks Head Knot process with the loose ends on the opposite side, attaching to the second ring.
9. Final Checks:
   • Check all knots for security and make adjustments if necessary.
