Introduction

Welcome to the world of modern minimalist design! Today, we are excited to share a free knitting pattern for striking black and white contrast socks featuring a unique 3D textured stitch. These socks are perfect for the fashion-forward crafter looking to make a statement. With clear instructions and a stylish design, you’ll be able to create a pair of socks that not only keep your feet warm but also elevate your wardrobe.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Fingering weight yarn in black and white
  • Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm) knitting needles
  • Gauge: 32 stitches and 40 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Casting On

Begin by casting on 64 stitches using the black yarn. Use a stretchy cast-on method to ensure the cuff fits comfortably. Once you have your stitches cast on, join in the round, making sure not to twist the stitches.

2. Cuff

For the cuff, work the following rounds:

  • Rounds 1-10: *K1, P1* ribbing in black yarn.

3. Leg

Continue with the leg of the sock:

  • Rounds 11-20: Switch to white yarn. Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round).
  • Rounds 21-30: Switch back to black yarn. Work in a 3D bobble stitch pattern:
    • Round 21: *K4, make bobble (MB)* repeat around.
    • Round 22: Knit all stitches.
    • Round 23: *MB, K4* repeat around.
    • Round 24: Knit all stitches.

Repeat Rounds 11-30 until the leg measures 6 inches from the cast-on edge, ending with a bobble pattern round.

4. Heel Flap

Switch to white yarn to work the heel flap:

  • Work back and forth on half of the stitches (32 stitches).
  • Row 1 (RS): *Sl1, K1* repeat across.
  • Row 2 (WS): Sl1, purl across.

Repeat these two rows for 2 inches, ending with a WS row.

5. Turn Heel

To turn the heel, follow these steps:

  • Row 1 (RS): K18, ssk, K1, turn.
  • Row 2 (WS): Sl1, P5, p2tog, P1, turn.
  • Row 3 (RS): Sl1, K6, ssk, K1, turn.
  • Row 4 (WS): Sl1, P7, p2tog, P1, turn.

Continue in this manner until all stitches have been worked.

6. Gusset

For the gusset, pick up and knit:

  • 16 stitches along the side of the heel flap with black yarn.
  • Knit across the 32 instep stitches in the bobble pattern.
  • Pick up and knit 16 stitches along the other side of the heel flap.
  • Knit across the heel stitches.

7. Foot

Continue in pattern, maintaining the bobble pattern on the instep and stockinette on the sole, until the foot measures 2 inches less than the desired total length.

8. Toe

Switch to white yarn and work the toe decreases as follows:

  • Round 1: *K6, k2tog* repeat around.
  • Round 2: Knit all stitches.
  • Round 3: *K5, k2tog* repeat around.
  • Round 4: Knit all stitches.

Continue decreasing in this manner until 16 stitches remain. Graft the toe using the Kitchener stitch.

9. Finishing

Finally, weave in all ends and block lightly to shape your beautiful new socks.

Now you have your very own pair of Modern Minimalist 3D Textured Socks! Enjoy wearing them or gifting them to a loved one. Happy knitting!
