Crochet Whimsical Enchanted Forest Gnome Costume Free Pattern
Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in green, brown, and beige
- Hook size H (5.0 mm)
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
- Measuring tape
Sizes: Toddler (2-4 years)
Chest: 22 inches
Length: 18 inches
Gauge: 12 double crochet stitches = 4 inches in pattern
Instructions:
Tunic
- Chain 40 (or the desired width for your child).
- Row 1: Double crochet in the 4th chain from the hook. Continue double crochet in each chain across. (38 DC)
- Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as first DC), turn, double crochet in each stitch across (38 DC). Repeat Row 2 until the piece measures 18 inches from the beginning.
- Fold the tunic in half and sew the sides together, leaving openings for the arms. Sew down approximately 6 inches, depending on desired sleeve length.
Hat
- Chain 4 and join to form a ring.
- Round 1: Chain 3 (counts as first DC), 11 DC into the ring (total 12 DC).
- Round 2: Chain 3, 2 DC in each stitch around (total 24 DC).
- Round 3: Chain 3, *1 DC in next stitch, 2 DC in next stitch* repeat around (total 36 DC).
- Continue adding rounds, increasing every few stitches until the hat measures approximately 10 inches tall and tapering it to a point. Add a decorative pom-pom on top if desired.
Accessories
Use leftover yarn to create a small belt, mittens, or a pouch by single crocheting rectangles and sewing them together. Get creative!
Assembly:
Dress your little one in the tunic and hat. Pair with brown leggings or pants for a complete gnome look. Add accessories for extra charm!
