Materials Needed

  • Worsted weight yarn in four colors: beige, tan, rust, and dark gray
  • Crochet hook size H (5.0mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

14 stitches x 16 rows = 4 inches in single crochet

Finished Size

Approximately 15 inches wide x 16 inches tall excluding handles.

Instructions

Base

  1. With beige yarn, ch 41.

  2. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn. (40 sc)

  3. Rows 2-10: Ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Change to tan yarn in the last st of Row 10.

Body

  1. Row 11: With tan yarn, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

  2. Rows 12-25: Repeat Row 11. Change to rust yarn in the last st of Row 25.

  3. Rows 26-40: With rust yarn, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn. Change to dark gray yarn in the last st of Row 40.

  4. Rows 41-55: With dark gray yarn, ch 1, sc in each st across, turn.

Handles

  1. With dark gray yarn, find and mark the center 12 sts at the top of the bag. Count 14 stitches from each side of the markers to position the handles.

  2. Attach rust yarn to the first marked st, ch 1, sc in the next 3 sts.

  3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

  4. Rows 3-50: Repeat Row 2. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.

  5. Repeat for the other handle.

Finishing

  1. Sew handles securely to the inside of the bag, ensuring they are evenly spaced.

  2. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
