Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in three contrasting colors
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- 1 zipper (optional)
Gauge:
16 stitches x 20 rows = 4" in double crochet (dc) with worsted weight yarn.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Pattern Instructions:
Base:
With Color A, ch 30.
Row 1: dc in the 4th ch from hook and across (28 dc). Turn.
Row 2: ch 2, dc in each st across. Turn.
Repeat Row 2 until you have 18 rows total.
Twist Design:
Row 19: Switch to Color B, ch 2, *dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st; repeat from * across (28 sts). Turn.
Row 20: Switch to Color C, ch 2, *dc in next st, ch 1, skip next st; repeat from * across. Turn.
Repeat Rows 19 and 20, alternating colors, until you've reached desired height (approximately 10 more rows).
Finishing:
Fold your piece in half and seam the sides using sc or your preferred method. If you wish to add a zipper, stitch it along the top edge before seaming closed. Weave in all ends neatly.
Optional Lining:
For a finished look, add a fabric lining. Cut fabric to size, place it inside your bag, and hand-sew it in place.
