Crochet Popcorn Stitch Cozy Blanket

This delightful crochet pattern features a soft popcorn stitch design, perfect for adding texture and warmth to any space. Ideal for beginners and seasoned crocheters alike, this cozy blanket will brighten up your home.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Bulky weight yarn (approximately 5), 100% acrylic
  • Crochet Hook: 6.5 mm (K-10.5) crochet hook
  • Gauge: 10 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in popcorn stitch

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start with a Slip Knot:

Begin by making a slip knot on your crochet hook. This will be the starting point of your blanket.

  2. Chain 60:

Chain 60 stitches (or adjust the number for your desired width). Make sure your chains are not too tight; they should be loose enough to work into easily.

  3. Row 1:

In the second chain from the hook, work 1 single crochet (sc) in each chain across. This means you will insert your hook into the chain, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, and pull through both loops on your hook. Once you reach the end of the row, turn your work.

  4. Row 2:

Chain 1 to start the new row. Now, you will create the popcorn stitches:

    • *Work 5 double crochets (dc) in the next stitch. To do this, yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over again, pull through, yarn over, pull through the first two loops, yarn over again, pull through the last two loops. Repeat this 5 times in the same stitch.
    • Skip the next stitch and make 1 single crochet (sc) in the following stitch.
    • Repeat from * across the row. Turn your work when you reach the end.
  5. Row 3:

Chain 1 to start. Work 1 single crochet (sc) in each popcorn stitch and 1 single crochet (sc) in each single crochet (sc) across the row. This will create a flat surface on top of your popcorn stitches. Turn your work.

  6. Repeat Rows 2 and 3:

Continue alternating between Row 2 and Row 3 until your blanket reaches the desired length. Make sure to count your rows to keep them even.

  7. Finish with a Clean Edge:

To give your blanket a polished look, finish with a row of single crochet (sc) around the entire blanket. This will help prevent any curling at the edges.

  8. Fasten Off:

Once you have completed the edging, fasten off your yarn by cutting it and pulling it through the last loop. Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle to keep your blanket looking neat.

Now you have your very own Crochet Popcorn Stitch Cozy Blanket! Enjoy snuggling up with it or gifting it to someone special.
