Materials

  • Medium weight yarn in white, various shades of blue, brown, grey, and skin tone.
  • Crochet hook size H/5.0 mm.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Scissors.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project. Adjust your hook size if your squares are not uniform.

Abbreviations

  • CH - Chain
  • DC - Double Crochet
  • SL ST - Slip Stitch

Pattern Notes

The blanket is worked from one corner to the opposite corner using the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique. Each pixel in the graph represents one C2C square.

Instructions

Starting the C2C

  1. Row 1: Using white yarn, CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. (1 Block)
  2. Row 2: CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. SL ST to the top of the first block. Turn.
  3. Row 3: CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. SL ST to the top of the second block. Turn.

Changing Colors

Consult the pixel graph to determine where to change colors. You will work in rows, each time beginning with a chain of 6 before making 3 DC into each CH-3 space from the previous row, turning your work, and continuing back along the row. Use intarsia or carry your yarn along to keep your work neat.

Continuing the C2C

  1. Continue in this manner, increasing at each end, and following the pixel graph pattern to change colors as needed.
  2. Once you reach the widest part of the design (middle row), you will begin to decrease by continuing the pattern but not adding a block on successive rows.

Finishing

  1. Finish off and weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.
  2. Block your finished blanket to the desired shape.
