Materials
- Medium weight yarn in white, various shades of blue, brown, grey, and skin tone.
- Crochet hook size H/5.0 mm.
- Tapestry needle.
- Scissors.
Gauge
Gauge is not critical for this project. Adjust your hook size if your squares are not uniform.
Abbreviations
- CH - Chain
- DC - Double Crochet
- SL ST - Slip Stitch
Pattern Notes
The blanket is worked from one corner to the opposite corner using the C2C (corner-to-corner) technique. Each pixel in the graph represents one C2C square.
Instructions
Starting the C2C
- Row 1: Using white yarn, CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. (1 Block)
- Row 2: CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. SL ST to the top of the first block. Turn.
- Row 3: CH 6, DC in 4th CH from hook and in each of the next 2 CH. SL ST to the top of the second block. Turn.
Changing Colors
Consult the pixel graph to determine where to change colors. You will work in rows, each time beginning with a chain of 6 before making 3 DC into each CH-3 space from the previous row, turning your work, and continuing back along the row. Use intarsia or carry your yarn along to keep your work neat.
Continuing the C2C
- Continue in this manner, increasing at each end, and following the pixel graph pattern to change colors as needed.
- Once you reach the widest part of the design (middle row), you will begin to decrease by continuing the pattern but not adding a block on successive rows.
Finishing
- Finish off and weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.
- Block your finished blanket to the desired shape.
