Cozy Mustard Baby Sweater
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200-250 yards) in mustard yellow
- Size 8 US (5 mm) circular knitting needles
- Size 8 US (5 mm) double pointed needles (for the sleeves)
- Stitch marker
- Tapestry needle (for weaving in ends)
- Scissors
Gauge:
18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
- Inc: Increase
Instructions:
Body:
- CO 60 sts using the long tail method.
- Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 2 inches (approximately 10 rows).
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every row) and continue until the piece measures 10 inches from the cast on edge.
Armholes:
- Divide the stitches for the armholes. K15, bind off 10 sts, K15. (You will have 30 sts on the needle.)
- Work in stockinette stitch until the piece measures 12 inches from the cast on edge. This is where the body will stop.
Back Neck:
- Row 1: K30
- Row 2: P30
- Row 3: K30
- Row 4: P30
- Row 5: K30 to create the neck ribbing for 1 inch.
- Now, back to the main body:
Finishing the Body:
- After reaching 12 inches in height, bind off all sts loosely.
- Weave in all loose ends using the tapestry needle.
Sleeves:
- Using double pointed needles, pick up 15 stitches on each side of the armhole. (Total of 30 stitches)
- Work in K1, P1 ribbing for 3 inches (about 12 rows).
- Switch to stockinette stitch and knit until the sleeve is 8 inches long.
- Bind off all stitches loosely. Repeat for the second sleeve.
Collar:
- Using circular needles, pick up stitches around the neck opening (about 60-70 stitches).
- Work in K1, P1 for about 1 inch.
- Bind off all stitches loosely.
Final Assembly:
- Turn the sweater inside out and weave in any remaining ends.
- Optional: Steam block the sweater to shape it nicely.
