Materials

• Multiple colors of worsted weight yarn (a variety of colors like red, green, pink, blue, and purple)

Each granny square is approximately 5 x 5 inches.

Instructions

Granny Square

1. Start: With your chosen color, make a slip knot and chain 4. Join to form a ring with a sl st in the first ch.
2. Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc into ring, ch 2, *3 dc into ring, ch 2; repeat from * 2 more times, join with sl st to top of ch-3. Fasten off and change color.
3. Rnd 2: Join new color in any ch-2 space, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same space, ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, ch 1; repeat from * 2 more times, 3 dc in same space as beginning, ch 2, join with sl st to top of ch-3. Fasten off and change color.
4. Rnd 3: Join new color in any ch-1 space, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in same space, ch 1, *3 dc in next ch-1 space, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 space, ch 1; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of ch-3. Fasten off and change color.
5. Continue Rnd 3: Repeat round 3 until your square measures 5 inches, changing colors randomly for a colorful look.

Joining Squares

Once you have made enough squares for your blanket (approx. 30 squares for a small throw), lay them out in a pattern you like. Use a single crochet stitch or join with a tapestry needle to sew them together along the edges.

Border

1. Using one of your chosen colors, join yarn in any corner and ch 1.
2. Work sc evenly around the entire blanket, making sure to put 3 sc in each corner space. Join with sl st to the first sc.
3. Fasten off and weave in all ends.
