Striped Baby Beanie Pattern
Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in Red (approximately 100 yards)
- Worsted weight yarn in White (approximately 100 yards)
- Size H (5 mm) crochet hook
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
14 double crochet stitches = 4 inches. Gauge is not critical for this project, but it is recommended to use the size hook that gives a firm fabric.
Abbreviations
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- sl st – slip stitch
- st(s) – stitch(es)
Instructions
Note:
This pattern is worked in the round, so use a stitch marker to keep track of the beginning of your round.
Base of the Hat
- Make a slip knot and ch 5. Join with a sl st to form a ring.
- Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), work 11 dc into the ring. Join with sl st to top of beginning ch-3. (12 dc)
- Round 2: Ch 3, dc in same st, 2 dc in each st around. Join with sl st. (24 dc)
- Round 3: Ch 3, (dc in next st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around. Join with sl st. (36 dc)
- Round 4: Ch 3, (dc in next 2 st, 2 dc in next st) repeat around. Join with sl st. (48 dc)
Striped Pattern
- Round 5: Ch 1, sc in each st around, changing to white yarn at the end of the round. (48 sc)
- Round 6: With white yarn, repeat Round 5. (48 sc)
- Round 7: Change to red yarn, repeat Round 5. (48 sc)
- Round 8: With white yarn, repeat Round 5. (48 sc)
- Round 9: Change to red yarn, repeat Round 5. (48 sc)
Crown Decrease
- Round 10: Ch 1, (sc in next 6, sc2tog) repeat around. (42 sc)
- Round 11: Ch 1, (sc in next 5, sc2tog) repeat around. (36 sc)
- Round 12: Ch 1, (sc in next 4, sc2tog) repeat around. (30 sc)
- Round 13: Ch 1, (sc in next 3, sc2tog) repeat around. (24 sc)
- Round 14: Ch 1, (sc in next 2, sc2tog) repeat around. (18 sc)
- Round 15: Ch 1, (sc in next 1, sc2tog) repeat around. (12 sc)
Finishing
- Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull through remaining stitches and tighten.
- Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
Size
This hat fits most newborns. Adjust the number of rows to make it larger or smaller if needed.
