Instructions
Step 1: Select your colors. For this blanket, you will work in a patchwork style, so you can choose how you want to arrange your colors. A sample order could be: Mustard Yellow, Coral Red, Light Gray, Off-White.
Step 2: Cast on 40 stitches using any of the colors, using your size 9 mm needles. This will create a square piece for your patchwork.
Step 3: Work in garter stitch (knit every row) until your piece measures approximately 10 inches long. This will give you a nice square for your patchwork.
Step 4: Bind off all stitches. Cut the yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Pull the tail through the last stitch and tighten.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 2 to 4 for each of the four colors, creating four separate squares. Each square should be about 10x10 inches.
Step 6: Use your yarn needle to weave in any loose ends from each square.
Step 7: Once you have all the squares complete, it’s time to assemble them. Lay them out in your desired patchwork pattern.
Step 8: To join the squares, you can either sew them together using a yarn needle or use a crochet slip stitch method:
- To use a slip stitch, with the right sides facing, align two squares together.
- Insert your hook through the edge of both squares, yarn over, and pull through to create a slip knot.
- Continue to slip stitch along the edge until both squares are joined.
- Repeat this process until all squares are joined together.
Step 9: For the final border, pick a color (like Light Gray) and crochet or knit a single crochet border around the entire blanket:*
- Start with a corner, make 3 single crochets in each corner to give it a rounded shape.
- Work along the edges, placing 1 single crochet in each stitch.*
Step 10: Weave in any remaining ends and trim excess yarn. Your Chunky Patchwork Blanket is complete!
Enjoy snuggling in your handmade blanket or gifting it to someone special!
