- k - Knit
- p - Purl
- st(s) - Stitch(es)
Instructions
Step 1: Cast On
Begin by making a slipknot. CO 30 stitches onto your size 25 knitting needle. Adjust the number of stitches according to your preferred width (e.g., 25 for a narrower blanket, or more for a wider one).
Step 2: Knit the First Row
Working the first row, k all stitches across the row.
Step 3: Alternate Rows
For the second row, p all stitches. Continue alternating between knitting and purling rows until the blanket reaches your desired length. Aim for about 60 inches for a standard throw size.
Step 4: Bind Off
Once you’ve reached your desired length, begin to BO. To bind off, k 2 stitches, then pull the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Continue this across the row until all stitches are bound off.
Step 5: Weave in Ends
Using a tapestry needle, weave in any loose ends from your yarn to give the blanket a neat finish.
Step 6: Final Touches
For an added touch, you can block your blanket by laying it flat on a clean surface and gently tugging the edges to square it up as needed.
Finishing Touches
Your chunky knit blanket is now ready to be used! Drape it over a couch, use it as a comfy throw when watching TV, or gift it to a loved one.
