Charming Chubby Fish Plushie

Materials:

  • Yarn: Bernat Blanket Yarn (or similar bulky yarn), 1 skein in Aqua
  • Yarn: Bernat Blanket Yarn (or similar bulky yarn), small amount in Bright Yellow (for details)
  • Hook: US Size J (6.0mm)
  • Notions: Fiberfill stuffing, safety eyes (12mm), tapestry needle, scissors

Gauge:

Approximately 8 stitches and 6 rounds = 4 inches in sc.

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in same stitch)
  • dec = decrease (sc2tog)
  • sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

Body:

  1. Starting at the nose, create a magic ring.
  2. Round 1: 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
  3. Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12)
  4. Round 3: *Sc in next stitch, inc in next stitch* repeat around. (18)
  5. Round 4-8: Sc in each stitch around. (18)
  6. Round 9: *Sc in next stitch, dec* repeat around. (12)
  7. Round 10: *Dec* around. (6)
  8. Stuff the body with fiberfill as you go and close off with a sl st, leaving a tail for sewing.

Fins (Make 2):

  1. Ch 5.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, dc in next ch, sc in last ch.
  3. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Tail:

  1. Ch 7.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, *dc in next ch, sc in next ch* repeat across.
  3. Fasten off, leaving a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Sew fins onto each side of the fish body securely.
  2. Attach the tail to the back center of the fish.
  3. Using the yellow yarn, embroider scales or details as desired.
  4. Attach safety eyes just above the mouth and stitch a simple smile.
