Materials Needed
- Worsted weight yarn in taupe - approximately 150g
- Crochet hook size H/8 (5.0 mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
Abbreviations
- ch: chain
- sc: single crochet
- hdc: half double crochet
- dc: double crochet
- fpdc: front post double crochet
- bpdc: back post double crochet
- sl st: slip stitch
- st(s): stitch(es)
Gauge
14 sts and 10 rows = 4 inches in single crochet.
Instructions
Cuff
- Ch 11.
- Row 1: Sc in the second ch from hook and in each ch across, turn - 10 sc.
- Rows 2-28: Ch 1, sc in back loops only in each st across, turn.
- Fold the piece to join Row 1 and Row 28, sl st together to form a round cuff.
Hand
- Round 1: Ch 1, sc 28 sts evenly around the edge of the cuff, join with sl st to first sc.
- Round 2: Ch 2 (counts as dc), *fpdc around next 2 sts, bpdc around next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of ch 2.
- Round 3: Ch 2, *swap the order by beginning with bpdc around the next 2 sts, fpdc around the next 2 sts; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of ch 2.
- Rounds 4-8: Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 for 5 more rounds.
Thumb Hole
- Round 9: Ch 1, sc in each of next 18 sts, ch 6, skip next 4 sts (this creates the thumb hole), sc in remaining sts, join with sl st.
Top
- Rounds 10-12: Repeat pattern from the main hand section (Rounds 2-3) over the thumb ch 6.
- Round 13: Ch 1, hdc in each st around, join with sl st to top of first hdc.
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
Thumb
- Join yarn to the bottom of the thumb hole, ch 1.
- Round 1: Sc in each available st around the thumb hole, join with a sl st - 10 sc.
- Rounds 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each st around, join with a sl st.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat the pattern for the second mitten.
Finishing
Block to shape if necessary.
