Simple Crochet Dishcloth

This easy crochet dishcloth is a lovely project for beginners, allowing you to practice basic crochet stitches while creating a useful item for your kitchen. With a soft pink cotton yarn, the finished dishcloth is gentle on your dishes and adds a delightful color to your home!

Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn (about 100 yards in pink)
• Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project, but aiming for 4 stitches per inch in single crochet will give you a dishcloth of about 8 x 8 inches.

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• sl st = slip stitch

Instructions

1. Start your Foundation Chain: Begin by making a slip knot and chaining 35 stitches (ch 35).
2. Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, make 1 single crochet (sc). Continue to make 1 sc in each chain across the row. You should have 34 sc at the end of this row. Turn your work.
3. Row 2-34: Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch). Make 1 sc in each stitch across the row. Turn your work. Repeat this row until your dishcloth reaches about 8 inches square.
4. Finishing: After completing your last row, cut the yarn leaving a long tail (about 6 inches). Pull the tail through the loop on your hook to secure it. Now it's time to weave in your ends. Use the tapestry needle to hide the beginning tail and the end tail by weaving it through the stitches on the back side of the dishcloth. Trim any excess yarn.
5. Blocking (optional): You may want to block your dishcloth to help it lay flat. Lay it flat on a clean surface and pin the edges if needed, allowing it to dry completely.
