Evergreen Ember Tree Hot Pad Free Knitting Pattern – Textured Holiday Trivet
Row 4: P1, K1, P1, K1.
Row 5: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, P1. (Increase 1 st at beginning). [5 sts]
Row 6: P1, K1, P1, K1, P1.
Continue the Pattern: Keep increasing 1 stitch at the beginning of every Right Side row (by knitting into the front and back of the first stitch). Work the established moss stitch pattern across. The key is to keep the pattern alternating: on RS rows, start with K1, P1...; on WS rows, start with P1, K1... so the stitches interlock beautifully.
Repeat these increases until you have 25 stitches on your needle. Now, work even in moss stitch (no increases) for 20 rows, maintaining the alternating pattern.
Tree Taper (Decreases)
Now we'll shape the top of the tree by decreasing on every Right Side row.
Row 1 (RS): SSK, work moss stitch to last 2 sts, K2tog. [23 sts]
Row 2 (WS): Work moss stitch across (no decrease).
Repeat these two rows until 5 stitches remain. Work even in moss stitch for 2 rows.
