Whimsical Cat Faces Crochet Tote

Materials:

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in brown, cream, black, and various bright colors
• 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Finished Size:

Approximately 12” wide x 14” tall

Stitches Used:

• Chain (ch)
• Single crochet (sc)

Pattern Instructions:

Base of the Bag:

1. Ch 36.
2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (35 sc). Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Repeat Row 2 until the total height is 10 inches.

Side Panels:

1. Join yarn at the end of the last row to begin working in the round.
2. Sc evenly around the perimeter, placing 2 sc in each corner for shaping.
3. Continue for 4 rounds. Change to the cream color.

Creating the Cat Faces:

1. Using a magic circle, create the face in brown yarn: 6 sc into the circle. Pull tight to close.
2. Round 1: 2 sc in each st (12).
3. Round 2: *1 sc, 2 sc in next st* repeat around (18).
4. Change to cream yarn for muzzle: sc in next 12 st. Finish off.
5. With black, create the eyes using French knots or felt circles embellished with yarn. Use bright yarn for nose and inner ears, adding to the charm.

Assembling the Bag:

1. Sew the cat faces onto the front and back of the bag using the tapestry needle.
2. Add either simple words or phrases around or beneath the cat faces if desired using slip stitch or sc in contrasting yarn.
3. For the handles, chain 60 and attach to either side of the bag with sl st, then sc back to form a sturdy strap. Repeat for the second handle.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends securely using the tapestry needle. Wash and block your tote gently to help set the stitches.
