Crochet Vibrant Striped Shell-Patterned Market Tote Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• 2 balls of durable cotton yarn in a light beige color
• 1 ball of cotton yarn in aqua blue
• 1 ball of cotton yarn in deep navy
• 1 ball of cotton yarn in coral
• 6.5 mm (K) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Stitch markers

Gauge: 10 dc x 6 rows = 4" square

Finished Dimensions: Approximately 14" wide, 10" tall, and 5" deep

Instructions:

Base of Tote:

Row 1: Create a slip knot and chain 26.
Row 2: In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 dc. Continue dc across the chain (24 dc total).
Row 3: Ch 2, turn. Dc in each dc across (24 dc). Repeat Row 3 until the base measures 14".

Building the Tote Sides:

Row 1: Change to the aqua blue yarn. Ch 1, sc into the first dc. Sc across the row (24 sc).
Row 2: Remember to place a stitch marker to denote the start of a new row. Ch 2, turn. Dc in each sc across (24 dc).

Color Stripes:

Shell Pattern:

Row 1: In the first dc, make 5 dc (this is the shell). Sk 2 dc, sc in the next dc. Repeat this pattern across the row.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first sc; *5 dc in the next sc, sk 2 sc, sc in the next sc* repeat until the last stitch. End with a sc. 

Finishing the Tote:

Continue building in height until the tote reaches 10" tall, then fasten off. Add a slip stitch edge in light beige around the top for a clean finish.

Handles:

To make handles: chain 60 in light beige. Slip stitch in the first chain to form a circle. Sc around the circle for 5 rounds, then fasten off.
Sew the handles securely to the inside of the tote, about 5" apart.
