Materials
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in 5 contrasting colors (approximately 100-150 yards each)
- Hook: 5 mm (H-8) crochet hook
- Tapestry needle for weaving ends
- Scissors
Gauge
15 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in pattern stitch
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- sp = space
- st = stitch
- rnd = round
- motif = triangle motif
Triangle Motif (Make 16)
1. Start with Color A.
2. Ch 4, join to form a ring.
3. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc 2 into the ring, ch 2, *dc 3 into the ring, ch 2; repeat from * 3 more times, join with sl st to top of initial ch 3. (You will have 4 clusters)
4. Round 2: Switch to Color B, sl st to the first ch 2 sp, (ch 3, dc 2) in the first ch 2 sp, ch 2, *(dc 3, ch 2) in next ch 2 sp; repeat from * 3 more times, join with sl st.
5. Continue to alternate colors in the same manner for an additional 3 rounds (Colors C, D, E), ensuring to keep the triangle shape.
Joining Motifs
To join the motifs:
1. Place two triangle motifs right sides together.
2. Using the main color (Color A), sl st through the edges of both motifs, creating a seamless connection. Repeat for all motifs until they are fully joined in a triangular shape.
Shawl Border
1. With Color A, sc evenly around the shawl edges for 2 rounds, creating a neat finish.
2. For a decorative touch, add 2 dc in each corner.
3. Finish off and weave in all ends.
