Crochet Versatile Buttoned Plaid Scarf Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Medium weight yarn in beige, light blue, dark grey, and brown.
  • Crochet hook size H/8 (5 mm).
  • Scissors.
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Two wooden buttons (1 inch in diameter).

Gauge:

4” x 4” = 16 stitches x 16 rows in single crochet.

Dimensions:

Finished scarf measures approximately 70 inches long and 8 inches wide.

Abbreviations:

  • ch – chain
  • sc – single crochet
  • st – stitch
  • sl st – slip stitch

Instructions:

Base of Scarf:

  1. Using dark grey yarn, ch 200.
  2. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (199 sc)
  3. Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off dark grey.

Adding Plaid Pattern:

  1. Join beige yarn. Rows 5-9: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off.
  2. Join brown yarn. Rows 10-14: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off.
  3. Join grey yarn. Rows 15-19: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off.
  4. Join blue yarn. Rows 20-24: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. Fasten off.
  5. Repeat color pattern until the total length of the scarf is achieved (approximately 70 inches).

Finishing and Buttons:

  1. With the right side facing, evenly space and sew the buttons along the short edge of one end of the scarf.
  2. Use the spaces between stitches as buttonholes to secure.

Finishing Touches:

Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle. Block the scarf lightly if necessary to shape it evenly. Enjoy your beautiful, versatile scarf!
