Crochet Textured Spiraled Cowl with Colorful Pop Free Pattern
Materials:
- Chunky yarn in 2 or more colors (approximately 200 yards total)
- Corresponding crochet hook (size 9mm recommended)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle
Gauge: 8 stitches x 10 rows = 4 inches in spiral pattern (note: exact gauge is not crucial for this project)
Finished Size: Approximately 12 inches wide and 24 inches in circumference (height can be adjusted as desired)
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- dc = double crochet
- sc = single crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
Instructions:
- Foundation Row: Start with a magic ring. Ch 2 (counts as first dc) and work 11 dc into the ring. Pull the yarn tail to tighten and sl st to the top of the first ch-2 to join (12 dc).
- Row 1: Ch 2, dc in same stitch, *2 dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join with sl st (24 dc).
- Row 2: Ch 2, dc in same stitch, dc in next stitch, *2 dc in next stitch, dc in next stitch; repeat from * around. Join with sl st (36 dc).
- Row 3: Ch 2, dc in same stitch, dc in next 2 stitches, *2 dc in next stitch, dc in next 2 stitches; repeat from * around. Join with sl st (48 dc).
- Color Change: At the end of Row 3, fasten off and switch to your next color. Repeat rows 1-3 alternating colors as desired.
- Row 4 onwards: Continue to repeat the pattern, increasing the number of dc stitches between increases for each subsequent row to maintain the spiraled look. Optionally, incorporate a different stitch every few rows to add texture.
- Keep crocheting until the cowl reaches your desired height, usually around 12 inches. Finish with a row of sc for a neat edge.
- To complete, weave in all ends with your tapestry needle, and your lovely spiraled cowl is ready to wear!
