Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in gray
  • 4.0 mm crochet hook
  • Polyester fiberfill stuffing
  • 10mm safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch marker

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • inc = increase (2 sc in 1 stitch)
  • dec = decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
  • st = stitch
  • sl st = slip stitch

Body:

  1. Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc around (12)
  3. Round 3: (Sc, inc) around (18)
  4. Round 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)
  5. Continue increasing until Round 10: (8 sc, inc) around (60)
  6. Rounds 11-30: Sc in each st around (60)
  7. Round 31: (8 sc, dec) around (54)
  8. Continue decreasing until Round 35: (3 sc, dec) around (24)
  9. Stuff the body firmly.
  10. Round 36: (Sc, dec) around (16)
  11. Round 37: Dec around (8)
  12. Fasten off and close the hole using a tapestry needle.

Fins (Make 2):

  1. Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc around (12)
  3. Rounds 3-5: Sc in each st around (12)
  4. Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing.

Tail:

  1. Round 1: Magic ring, 6 sc (6)
  2. Round 2: Inc around (12)
  3. Round 3: (Sc, inc) around (18)
  4. Round 4: (2 sc, inc) around (24)
  5. Rounds 5-6: Sc in each st around (24)
  6. Round 7: (2 sc, dec) around (18)
  7. Fasten off, leave a tail for sewing.

Assembly:

  1. Attach the fins to each side of the body.
  2. Sew the tail to the back of the body.
  3. Insert safety eyes between rounds 8 and 9.
  4. Embroider a nose using black yarn between the eyes.

Your manatee amigurumi is now complete and ready to cuddle!
