Lacy Elegant Petal Shawl Free Pattern

Materials:

  • Lightweight cotton blend yarn (approximately 600 yards)
  • 4.5 mm (US 7) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle
  • Scissors

Gauge:

18 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in double crochet

Finished Size:

Approximately 60 inches wide and 30 inches long at the center.

Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sk = skip
  • sp = space
  • sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

Foundation Chain:

Ch 120.

Row 1:

Dc in the 4th ch from hook, *ch 1, sk 1 ch, dc in next ch; repeat from * across ending with 1 dc in last ch. (Total of 60 dc and 59 ch-1 spaces.)

Row 2:

Ch 3 (counts as first dc), turn. *Dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; repeat from * across, ending with a double crochet in the top of turning chain. (Total of 60 dc and 59 ch-1 spaces.)

Row 3:

Repeat Row 2 until the shawl measures approximately 20 inches from the foundation chain.

Petal Edging:

To create the petal edges, you will work into the ch-1 spaces from the previous rows:

  1. Ch 4, and then work 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc into the first ch-1 space.
  2. In each ch-1 space across, work 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc.
  3. At the end of the row, fasten off.

Final Edging:

To finish, create a shell edging along the top and bottom edges:

  • Join yarn at any corner, ch 1, then work *[dc, ch 2, dc] into the same sp; sk 1 sp; repeat from * across.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends securely. Block the shawl to enhance the stitch definition and pattern.
