Crochet Elegant Striped Lacy Slouch Hat Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Sport weight yarn in three colors: cream, light brown, dark brown
• Crochet hook size G/4.0mm
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• st(s) = stitch(es)

Instructions:

Ribbed Band:

1. Using dark brown yarn, ch 10.
2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (9 sc)
3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc in back loop only of each st across. (9 sc)
4. Repeat Row 2 until band measures approximately 20 inches, or fits comfortably around your head.
5. Join the ends with a sl st to form a circle.

Lacy Slouch Body:

1. Switch to cream yarn. Work one sc around the edge of the band for every row end. Join with a sl st to the first sc.
2. Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), dc in next st, *ch 1, skip 1 st, 2 dc in next 2 sts*, repeat * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
3. Round 2: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *ch 1, skip ch space, 2 dc in next 2 dc*, repeat * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3.
4. Change to light brown yarn. Repeat Round 2.
5. Switch to dark brown yarn and continue repeating Round 2, changing colors every two rounds to form stripes until the piece measures about 10 inches from the band.

Shaping the Crown:

1. Continue with dark brown, *ch 1, skip next st, dc in next dc*, repeat * to * around. Join with sl st.
2. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Weave the tail through the last round's stitches and pull tight to close the top.

Finishing:

Weave in all ends securely with a yarn needle. Block gently if necessary to shape.
