Crochet Delicate Shells Textured Shawl Free Pattern

Materials:

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 600 yards)
  • Crochet hook size H (5.0 mm)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends

Gauge:

4 inches x 4 inches = 14 shells x 8 rows of shells in pattern. Adjust hook size if necessary.

Stitch Abbreviations:

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • tr = treble crochet
  • sk = skip
  • sp = space

Instructions:

Start with a foundation chain of 66 stitches (or any multiple of 8 + 2 for the desired width).

Row 1:

In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 dc. *Skip 2 chains, (1 tr, 1 dc) in the next chain (this creates the shell), skip 2 chains.* Repeat from * to * across the row. End with 1 dc in the last chain. Turn.

Row 2:

Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), in the first sp, make (1 tr, 1 dc). *In the next shell sp, (1 tr, 1 dc)*. Repeat from * to * across the row, making sure to place 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn.

Row 3:

Ch 3, (1 dc in the first sp). *Skip the first 2 stitches of the shell, then in the next sp (1 tr, 1 dc)*. Repeat from * to * across the row, finishing with 1 dc in the last stitch. Turn.

Repeat Rows 2-3

Continue repeating Rows 2 and 3 until your shawl reaches approximately 60 inches in length or your desired length.

Finishing:

Fasten off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle. Block your shawl lightly to open up the stitches and enhance the shell design.
