- 50g of contrasting fingering weight yarn (Contrast Color)
- Crochet hook size D (3.25 mm)
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
Gauge: 20 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in pattern
Finished Size: Approx. 60 inches wide and 30 inches deep at the center
Instructions:
Foundation:
Start with a slip knot and chain 103.
Row 1:
In the 4th chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet, *chain 1, skip 1 chain, 1 double crochet in the next chain; repeat from * until the end, turn.
Row 2:
Chain 3 (counts as 1 double crochet), turn, *chain 1, 1 double crochet in the next chain space; repeat from * until the end, ending with 1 double crochet in the top of the turning chain.
Row 3:
Change to Contrast Color. Chain 1, *1 single crochet in the next double crochet, chain 2, 1 single crochet in the next chain space; repeat from * until the end, turn.
Row 4:
Chain 3, *1 double crochet in the single crochet, chain 1; repeat from * until the end, ending with 1 double crochet in the top of the turning chain.
Rows 5-20:
Repeat Rows 2-4, alternating colors as set, until the shawl reaches the desired depth, or you run out of yarn.
Border:
With any color, chain 1, and single crochet evenly around the entire shawl. In the corners, make 3 single crochets in the same stitch to keep the shape.
Finishing:
Fasten off, weave in all ends with a tapestry needle. Lightly block the shawl to open up the lace pattern.
