Materials
- Red yarn (medium weight)
- Black yarn (medium weight)
- Crochet hook size G/4 mm
- Tapestry needle
- Scissors
- Small amount of white yarn or felt for eyes
Abbreviations
- Ch - Chain
- Sc - Single crochet
- Inc - Increase (2 sc in one stitch)
- Dec - Decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
- Sl st - Slip stitch
Notes
The bookmark is crocheted in sections: body, head, antennae, and wings, then sewn together.
Pattern
Body
- With black yarn, ch 60.
- Row 1: Sc in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across. Turn. (59 sc)
- Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each stitch across. Turn.
- Fasten off and weave in ends.
Head
- With black yarn, make a magic ring.
- Round 1: 6 sc in ring. (6 sc)
- Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
- Rounds 3: Sc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail to sew.
Wings (make 2)
- With red yarn, ch 2.
- Round 1: 6 sc in 2nd chain from hook. (6 sc)
- Round 2: Inc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
- Round 3: Sc in each stitch around. (12 sc)
- Round 4: [Sc in 1, inc] repeat around. (18 sc)
- Fasten off and weave in ends. Use black yarn to embroider or attach small crocheted black circles for spots.
Antennae (make 2)
- With black yarn, ch 6.
- Sl st in 2nd chain from hook and each chain across. Fasten off.
Assembly
- Sew the head to the top of the body.
- Attach the antennae to the top of the head.
- Sew the wings to each side of the head/body.
- Attach small circles or embroider black spots on the wings.
- Embroider or attach white eyes onto the head.
