Instructions

Blanket Size

This pattern will create a blanket approximately 40 inches wide by 50 inches long, but you can adjust the size by increasing or decreasing the number of squares.

Step 1: Create the Foundation Chain

  1. With Brown yarn, make a slip knot and then chain 102 (this is for 40 inches wide, adjust as necessary).

Step 2: Establish Rows

  1. Row 1: In the 4th chain from the hook, work 1 dc. *Skip the next 2 chains, work 1 dc in the next chain.* Repeat from * to * until you reach the end. Turn your work.
  2. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the next dc. *Skip 2 stitches, dc in the next dc.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn your work.
  3. Row 3: Change to Cream yarn. Ch 3 (counts as first dc), dc in the next dc. *Skip 2 stitches, dc in the next dc.* Repeat from * to * across. Turn your work.

Step 3: Continue Pattern

  1. Continue alternating between Brown and Cream every two rows until the blanket reaches 50 inches long. A total of 25 rows will yield the approximate height.

Step 4: Finishing

  1. Fasten off and weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
  2. If desired, you can create a simple border. To do this, use the Brown yarn, and work 1 round of sc (single crochet) around the entire blanket, adding 3 sc in each corner to keep it flat. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Your cozy checkerboard crochet blanket is ready! Enjoy the warmth and texture it brings to your space.
