Colorful Patchwork Scarf Pattern
Materials
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in different colors (red, green, orange, peach, brown, and cream) – approximately 300 yards total
- Knitting needles: US Size 8 (5 mm)
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge
Gauge is not crucial for this project, but for reference, approximately 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations
- CO - Cast On
- k - Knit
- p - Purl
- St(s) - Stitch(es)
Instructions
- Cast On: Begin by casting on 30 stitches using the first color yarn (e.g., red). This will be the width of your scarf.
- First Stripe: Knit 10 rows in red (this will create the first stripe).
- Change Color: After completing 10 rows, cut the red yarn, leaving a tail of about 6 inches, and tie on the next color (green). Knit 10 rows in green.
- Continue with Colors: Repeat the color change every 10 rows. Continue with the colors in this order: orange, peach, brown, and cream. You should have a total of 6 different stripes.
- Finishing the Scarf: Once you have knitted 60 rows (10 rows for each of the 6 colors), cut the yarn leaving about a 6-inch tail. Thread the tail through the last stitch to secure it and pull it tight.
- Weaving in Ends: Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends from each color change on the backside of the scarf. This keeps your project neat and tidy.
- Blocking (optional): If desired, gently wash the scarf in lukewarm water and lay it flat to dry. This will help to relax the yarn and even out any uneven stitches.
Final Dimensions
Your finished scarf should measure approximately 8 inches wide and 60 inches long, making it perfect for wrapping around your neck or wearing as a stylish accessory.
