Chunky Ribbed Knit Beanie with Pom Pom Pattern
Materials
- Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in white, approximately 150 yards
- Needles: US size 10 (6.0 mm) circular needles, 16 inches long
- Darning needle
- Stitch marker
- Scissors
- Large fluffy pom pom (can be made or purchased)
Gauge
12 stitches and 16 rows = 4 inches in 2x2 ribbing
Abbreviations
- CO - Cast On
- K - Knit
- P - Purl
- Rnd(s) - Round(s)
- St(s) - Stitch(es)
Instructions
Brim
- CO 72 sts. Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches. Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the rnd.
- Work in a 2x2 ribbing pattern (K2, P2) for 6 inches. This creates the fold-over brim.
Body
- Continue in 2x2 ribbing for an additional 5 inches.
Decreasing for the Crown
- Rnd 1: (K2, P2) around.
- Rnd 2: *(K2, P2tog), repeat from * around — 54 sts.
- Rnd 3: (K2, P1) around.
- Rnd 4: *(K2tog, P1), repeat from * around — 36 sts.
- Rnd 5: (K1, P1) around.
- Rnd 6: *(K2tog), repeat from * around — 18 sts.
- Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the top of the hat. Secure the end.
Finishing
- Sew the pom pom onto the top of the beanie.
- Weave in all ends using the darning needle.
