Instructions
Cast On
1. Begin by casting on 30 stitches (this will create a dishcloth of about 10 inches wide). Use the long-tail cast-on method for a neat edge.
Rows 1-40
2. Knit every row for a total of 40 rows. This is known as garter stitch and gives the dishcloth a textured, ridged appearance. In each row, ensure you pull the yarn tight but not excessively, which will keep your stitches even.
Bind Off
3. Once you reach the desired length (about 10 inches), bind off all stitches loosely. To bind off, knit the first two stitches. Then, using your left needle, lift the first stitch over the second stitch and off the needle. Knit another stitch and repeat this process until all stitches are bound off.
Finishing
4. Cut the yarn leaving a tail of about 6 inches. Pull the tail through the last stitch to secure it. Use your tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends on the edges of the dishcloth.
Blocking (Optional)
5. If desired, you can lightly block your dishcloth to even out the stitches and improve the shape. Wet the cloth, reshape it to the desired dimensions, and allow it to dry flat.
