Rustic Crocheted Placemat Pattern

Materials:

• Cotton yarn (approx. 200 yards) in a beige shade
• Crochet hook size H (5.0 mm)
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, but each round should lay flat.

Abbreviations:

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• hdc = half double crochet
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

Base Round:

1. Start with a magic circle.
2. Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as first hdc), 11 hdc into the circle. Join with a sl st to the top of the starting ch-2. (12 hdc)

Main Body:

3. Round 2: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st. 2 hdc in each st around. Join with sl st to top of ch-2. (24 hdc)
4. Round 3: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), 1 dc in the same st. *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-3. (36 dc)
5. Round 4: Ch 2, 1 hdc in the same st. *1 hdc in next two sts, 2 hdc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around. Join with sl st to top of ch-2. (48 hdc)

Edging:

6. Round 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, *skip next st, 5 dc in next st (shell made), skip next st, sc in next st.* Repeat from * to * around, ending with a sl st to beginning sc. (12 shells)

Finishing:

Fasten off and weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
