Ribbed Knit Beanie Pattern

Materials

• 100g Aran weight yarn in grey
• 4.5mm (US 7) circular knitting needles, 16-inch
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
• Scissors

Gauge

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in rib pattern

Abbreviations

• CO: Cast on
• K: Knit
• P: Purl
• K2tog: Knit two stitches together
• P2tog: Purl two stitches together

Instructions

1. Cast On: CO 96 stitches. Join in the round, being careful not to twist stitches. Place a marker to indicate the beginning of the round.
2. Ribbing: Work in *K2, P2* ribbing until the piece measures 10 inches (25 cm) from the cast-on edge.
3. Begin Decreases:
   • Round 1: *K2tog, P2*, repeat around. (72 stitches)
   • Round 2: *K1, P2*, repeat around.
   • Round 3: *K2tog, P1*, repeat around. (48 stitches)
   • Round 4: *K1, P1*, repeat around.
   • Round 5: *K2tog*, repeat around. (24 stitches)
4. Finishing: Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail onto tapestry needle, and pass through remaining 24 stitches. Pull tight to close the top of the beanie. Secure and weave in ends.
