Crochet Whimsical Woodland Fauna Storage Basket Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

• Medium weight yarn in color A (animal face)
• Medium weight yarn in color B (basket body)
• 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
• Fiberfill or stuffing (for optional plushie effect)
• Safety eyes or buttons
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, however, aiming for a tight stitch is recommended to prevent stuffing from showing through.

Stitches Used:

• Chain (ch)
• Slip stitch (sl st)
• Single crochet (sc)
• Half double crochet (hdc)
• Double crochet (dc)

Size:

Finished basket will be approximately 8 inches tall and 6 inches wide.

Instructions:

Basket Base:

1. With color B, make a magic ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 1, 6 sc in magic ring. (6)
3. Round 2: 2 sc in each stitch around. (12)
4. Round 3: *1 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* repeat around. (18)
5. Round 4: *2 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* repeat around. (24)
6. Continue increasing until you reach round 8 when you have 48 stitches. Round 8: *11 sc, 2 sc in next stitch* (48)
7. Rounds 9-12: Sc in each stitch around. (48)
8. Change to color A and work 4 rounds of sc in every stitch. (48)

Basket Sides:

1. Round 13: 2 hdc in each stitch around. (96)
2. Rounds 14-18: Sc in each stitch around. (96)

Animal Face:

1. Using color A, attach yarn with a slip stitch at the center front of the face.
2. Ch 5, sl st to form a nose, then use safety eyes or buttons for eyes above the nose.
3. Embroider a smile beneath the nose with black yarn.

Finishing:

1. Weave in all ends securely.
2. Optionally, stuff with fiberfill for a plush effect.
