Crochet Colorful Heart Granny Square Free Pattern
Introduction
Welcome to our vibrant crochet project! In this tutorial, we will guide you through creating a beautiful heart granny square that is perfect for various uses such as blankets, bags, or simply as a decorative piece. This pattern is designed for beginners and will help you build your crochet skills while creating something lovely and colorful. Let’s get started!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Medium weight cotton yarn in red, blue, and white
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
- Gauge: 4 inches = 12 stitches in double crochet
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start with a Magic Ring: Using the blue yarn, create a magic ring. To do this, wrap the yarn around your fingers to form a loop, then pull a loop of yarn through the ring to start your first stitch.
- Round 1: Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet). Now, work 11 double crochets (dc) into the magic ring. To do a double crochet, yarn over, insert your hook into the ring, yarn over again, pull through, yarn over, pull through the first two loops on your hook, yarn over again, and pull through the last two loops. After completing 11 dc, you should have a total of 12 dc in the ring. Join the round by slip stitching (sl st) into the top of the initial chain 3.
- Round 2: Change to red yarn. Chain 3, and work 1 dc in the same stitch. Then, for the rest of the round, work *2 dc in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st. You should now have 24 dc.
- Round 3: Chain 3, and work 1 dc in the same stitch. For the rest of the round, work *1 dc in the next stitch, 2 dc in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st. You should have 36 dc at the end of this round.
- Round 4: Change to blue yarn. Chain 3, and work 1 dc in the same stitch. For the rest of the round, work *1 dc in the next 2 stitches, 2 dc in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st. You should have 48 dc.
- Round 5: Chain 1, and work 1 single crochet (sc) in the same stitch. For the rest of the round, work *chain 2, sc in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a sl st. You should have 24 chain-2 spaces at the end of this round.
- Finish Off: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure it. Weave in all ends using a yarn needle to tidy up your square.
- Optional Decoration: For added charm, you can attach a small crocheted red heart to the square. A separate pattern for the heart is available if you wish to add this decorative touch.
Congratulations! You have completed your Crochet Colorful Heart Granny Square. Enjoy using it in your projects or gifting it to someone special!
