Colorful Crochet Coasters
These vibrant coasters are not only practical but also a wonderful decorative piece for your home. Made with cheerful colors, they’re the perfect project for beginners wanting to practice their crochet skills!
Materials:
- Yarn in various colors: Red, Green, Pink, Teal, and White (medium weight)
- Crochet hooks: Size H (5.0 mm) and Size I (5.5 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
Gauge:
Gauge isn’t critical for this project, but aim for a circular shape of about 4-5 inches in diameter for each coaster.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sl st = slip stitch
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- st = stitch
- RS = right side
- WS = wrong side
Instructions:
Base of the Coaster:
- Start with a slip knot using white yarn on your size H hook.
- Ch 4, and join to form a ring with a sl st.
- Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as 1 dc), 11 dc in the ring. Join with sl st to top of ch 2. (12 dc total)
- Round 2: Ch 2, dc in same st, *2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (24 dc total)
- Round 3: Ch 2, *1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st; repeat from * around. Join. (36 dc total)
- Remove the white yarn and join the pink yarn with a sl st in any st.
- Round 4: Ch 1, sc in same st, *ch 2, sc in next st; repeat from * around, ending with ch 2 and sl st to first sc. (18 chain spaces)
- Change to green yarn: Sl st into first ch space from previous round, creating a new round.
- Round 5: Ch 1, sc in same space, *ch 2, sc in next ch space; repeat from * around. After last repeat, join with a sl st to first sc.
- Change to red yarn: Sl st into first ch space.
- Round 6: Ch 1, sc in same space, *ch 1, 5 dc in next ch space (this creates the bobble); ch 1, sc in next ch space; repeat from * around. Join with sl st to first sc.
- Trim your yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in ends.
Adding Colorful Edging:
Finishing:
- Using your tapestry needle, weave in all ends securely on the reverse side of your coaster.
- Repeat the steps to make additional coasters in different colors!
