Colorful Baby Bonnet

This delightful knotted baby bonnet is not only adorable but also functional for keeping your little one warm. The vibrant colors will brighten up any outfit!

Materials:

  • Colorful worsted weight yarn (about 100 yards)
  • Size 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needles
  • Stitch marker
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Gauge:

Approximately 4 stitches = 1 inch in stockinette stitch.

Abbreviations:

  • CO: Cast on
  • k: Knit
  • p: Purl
  • sts: Stitches
  • k2tog: Knit two together
  • BO: Bind off

Instructions:

  1. Cast On: CO 60 sts onto your circular needles.
  2. Ribbing: K1, P1 for 10 rows to create a stretchy ribbed edge.
  3. Body of the Bonnet:
       1. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every row) and continue for 15 rows.
       2. After 15 rows, begin shaping the top of the bonnet as follows:
  4. Shaping:
       1. Row 1: K28, k2tog, k28 (59 sts)
       2. Row 2: K all sts
       3. Row 3: K27, k2tog, k27 (58 sts)
       4. Row 4: K all sts
       5. Repeat these two rows until you have 10 sts remaining.
  5. Final Shaping:
       1. K2tog across the last row to finish with 5 sts.
       2. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail, and thread through remaining stitches then pull tight to close the top.
  6. Ear Flaps:
       1. From the seam side, pick up 12 sts on each side of the bonnet.
       2. Work in stockinette for 10 rows, then BO all stitches.
  7. Finishing: Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle. You may also want to add pom-poms or tassels to the ear flaps for extra cuteness!
