Materials

  • Yarn: 4 skeins of medium-weight yarn in warm orange, dark green, light green, and brown
  • Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm)
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

4 inches = 12 double crochets and 7 rows of double crochet.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • st(s) = stitch(es)
  • sp = space

Instructions

  1. Start with your foundation chain: Chain 150 to create a foundation row that measures approximately 48 inches.
  2. Row 1: In the fourth chain from the hook, make 1 double crochet (dc), then dc in each chain across the row. You should have 148 dc total. Turn your work.
  3. Row 2: Chain 3 (counts as a dc), then make 1 dc in the next stitch and in each stitch across (148 dc). Turn your work.
  4. Color change: To switch to orange, complete the last dc of Row 2, and drop the green yarn and join the orange yarn into the last dc. Turn your work.
  5. Rows 3-6: Repeat Row 2, but switch the colors every 2 rows as follows: Row 3 and 4 in orange, Row 5 and 6 in dark green.
  6. Continue alternating colors: Maintain this pattern of 2 rows each of orange, dark green, light green, and brown until you reach a total of about 42 inches in height (approximately 60 rows).
  7. Final Row: On the final row, use any color you prefer (recommend the dark green). Make 1 dc in each stitch across. This acts as a border.
  8. Finishing: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull through the last loop and tighten. Weave in all loose ends using a yarn needle.
  9. Optional Border: For a decorative edge, single crochet (sc) around the entire blanket, making 3 sc in each corner to maintain shape.

Your cozy blanket is now ready to be used or gifted! Enjoy the warmth it brings to your space!
